Gabriola Sands Provincial Park
+ My Favorites
Gabriola Sands Park is also referred to by locals as Twin Beaches Park, which is also the name of the shopping centre located close by. Home to the annual Sand Castle Competition, this beach is one of Garbriola's most popular. Facing west is the Taylor Bay portion with playground, picnic, pit toilets and water pump. In low tide, visitors can take a stroll along Taylor Bay (to the left) to see the Malaspina Galleries, which are large limestone formations.

Pirates Cove Marine Provincial Park
+ My Favorites
Located on De Courcy Island off Nanaimo, the park offers a sheltered anchorage for boaters, as well as two dinghy docks. Unusual sandstone rock formations line the shoreline at Pirates Cove. Poison oak can also be found along steep rock outcroppings in the cove.

Drumbeg Provincial Park
+ My Favorites
Drumbeg Provincial Park totals 20 hectares and is a popular spot for hiking and diving. The park has a one kilometre sand and pebble beach with many interesting rock formations that can be seen in low tide. Picnic tables, pit toilets, hiking trails are just a few of the services that can be found in the park. A very important warning to visitors: this park contains a plant called Giant Hogweed, which is relatively contained near the far back of the park, but can be extremely dangerous to those who come into contact (it can cause temporary or permanent blindness, light sensitivity and painful blisters). The plant can reach heights of about five to seven metres (15 to 20 feet) and 1.7 metres (5 feet) wide. The hollow stems have reddish-purple spots and bristles and the leaves resemble maple leaves, with hair on the undersurface.
